eReaders and the new reading

Since a few months I'm in possession of a real e-reader, the Sony PRS-600 Touch Edition. Out of curiosity I wanted to know or read in such a device really has a future. Despite the fact that the Sony Reader is now gathering dust on my nightstand, I think that this is the case.

Who wants to pioneer new technology must be prepared to endure much misery. So it was with the digital book. The first eReader that I bought at the Media Market on the corner, the Bookeen Cybook Gen3. This was only "Mobipocket" books to read while in the Netherlands is the standard ePub format. In other words, reading a Dutch book was impossible.

A few nights crafts and scavenger hunts on the Internet despite I could do nothing more than the Bookeen Reader back to the store, where they took him happy no problems.

Sony PRS-600 Touch Edition
Not yet out of the field beaten by Bol.com now I bought the Sony PRS-600 Touch Edition. Since Bol.com also sells books, this would certainly be reading this Reader was my reasoning, which fortunately was right.

Once in possession of the Sony Reader, I bought my first digital book. As many as 8 euros I had to shell out for the digital version of "If any woman at the doctor" of Kluun. Not really the kind of book I would normally read, but the supply was very limited.

Was read from the not yet. Due to problems with the download link and DRM we could not open this book to get the Reader. Customer Bol.com was happy to do so Chiq paid money for this book unreadable refunded.

The next book I bought, "Fathers and Sons" by Hugo Borst, fortunately worked. Here I have a number of pages read. That was pretty nice. I was not very happy with the Sony Reader.

The contrast of the screen of the Sony is much less than that of the Bookeen. This has to do with the Touch functionality, which also works for a yard and therefore has no added value.

The potential is there
The potential of the digital reading is certainly there. The almost magical E-Ink technology ensures that you can read a screen without annoying for your eyes. The letters are "just there, there is no light involved. This is a special experience and I recommend everyone to agree an eBook in the shop to try to understand this.

It is still waiting for the device that really fit and use enough books to read. In addition, there is sufficient demand are Dutch. Bol.com looks like an impressive number of titles in the digital product range, but that falls into the dirty practice against.

Also the price is still not at the desired level. a digital book would not have cost more than 5 euros. The amounts in excess of 20 euros which you now see are the real fools.

The digital reading is really short, still in its infancy. It's only a matter of time before the teething problems are resolved, and by that time I expect to read books now mainly digital will take place.

I am ready for it, now the technology is.

There can be no further reaction to be given.
